Former Monza and Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino has been appointed as Atalanta’s new manager, the Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday.
Raffaele Palladino Appointed Atalanta’s New Manager After Ivan Jurić’s Dismissal
Palladino replaces Ivan Jurić, who was dismissed on Monday following a seven-match winless run that has seen the Bergamo side slump to 13th place in Serie A. The decision came just two days after Atalanta’s 3–0 home defeat to newly promoted Sassuolo.
A Promising Coach with a Strong Track Record
The 41-year-old coach enjoyed success during his spells at Monza and Fiorentina, guiding the latter to a sixth-place league finish and the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. His departure from Fiorentina during the summer came as a surprise to many observers, given the club’s progress under his leadership.
Atalanta announced that Palladino has signed a contract through to the end of next season. His first match in charge will be away to defending champions Napoli following the international break.
Challenges Ahead for Atalanta
After a difficult run that included two consecutive defeats following five successive draws, Atalanta now sit 11 points adrift of Serie A leaders Inter Milan and Roma.
In Europe, however, the club’s Champions League form has been more encouraging, with two wins, one draw, and one loss so far in the group stage. Palladino’s second match in charge will be a challenging trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
Serie A’s Managerial Merry-Go-Round Continues
Palladino’s appointment marks the fourth managerial change in Serie A this season, following earlier moves at Juventus, Genoa, and Fiorentina.
Adding an intriguing twist, Roma are currently managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously spent nine largely successful seasons in charge at Atalanta before being succeeded by Jurić.
