Swansea City have dismissed manager Alan Sheehan following their 4–1 home defeat to Ipswich Town at the weekend.
Ipswich Town: Alan Sheehan Dismissed by Swansea City After Heavy Defeat
The decision comes amid growing frustration at the club’s poor start to the season, despite a high-profile ownership change that saw Real Madrid legend Luka Modrić and rapper Snoop Dogg join as investors earlier this year.
Swansea enter the international break 18th in the Championship table, having collected only 17 points from their opening 15 matches — a run consisting of four wins, five draws and six defeats. The team’s underlying performances have also raised concern, prompting the club to take swift action.
Saturday’s match at the Swansea.com Stadium was a particularly damaging blow. Jack Clarke opened the scoring for Ipswich before Gonçalo Franco levelled for the hosts. However, two own goals from Cameron Burgess, either side of Iván Azón’s first strike for Town, sealed a comfortable win for Kieran McKenna’s side.
After the final whistle, Sheehan admitted his side had been “well below par”, but the defeat ultimately cost him his position.
The 39-year-old becomes the second Championship manager this season to lose his job after facing Ipswich, following Rúben Sellés, who was dismissed by Sheffield United after their 5–0 thrashing at Portman Road last month.
