Former Celtic coach Harry Kewell has been unveiled as the new manager of Vietnamese top-flight side Hanoi FC.
Former Celtic Coach Harry Kewell Appointed as New Manager of Hanoi FC
Kewell, 47, was brought to Celtic Park in the summer of 2022 by his compatriot Ange Postecoglou, joining the backroom staff as part of the Australian’s coaching setup. Despite Postecoglou’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur a year later, Kewell remained at the club, serving under Brendan Rodgers for six months before leaving at the end of 2023.
Following his exit from Glasgow, the former Liverpool and Leeds United winger took charge of Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos. His stint in Japan, however, lasted just 33 games before parting ways with the J1 League outfit.
After spending over a year out of management, Kewell has now returned to the dugout, taking over at Hanoi FC, who currently sit sixth in the 14-team Vietnamese V.League 1, six matches into the new season.
A club statement confirmed the appointment, reading:
“Hanoi Football Club officially appointed Mr Harry Kewell – former Liverpool player and UEFA Champions League winner – as head coach of the capital team.
With extensive experience in Europe both as a player and as a coach, Harry Kewell is expected to bring a breath of fresh air, contributing to raising the level of Hanoi Football Club on the journey to achieve domestic success and fulfil the aspiration to compete at continental level.”
Kewell’s first match in charge will be on Saturday, 18 October, when Hanoi FC face Ninh Binh.
