Bayern Munich have begun announcing a series of contract extensions following months of negotiations, with Serge Gnabry becoming the first player to commit his future to the club.
Bayern Munich Extend Serge Gnabry’s Contract
The Bundesliga champions confirmed on Thursday that the German forward has signed a new two-year contract, ending speculation over his future. Gnabry would have been available on a free transfer this summer had he failed to agree fresh terms.
The extension means Gnabry is set to complete a decade at the Allianz Arena by the time the new deal expires. The 30-year-old expressed his satisfaction at continuing his journey in Munich, having remained determined to prove his value to the squad despite uncertainty surrounding his role in recent seasons.
Revival After Uncertain Period
Gnabry’s renewal follows an impressive turnaround over the past 12 months. Bayern had been open to offers for the attacker during the previous two summer transfer windows, but the former Arsenal man made it clear he wanted to remain at the club and fight for his place.
After a largely underwhelming campaign last season, Gnabry has rediscovered his form this term, delivering strong attacking returns during the Hinrunde. He also performed effectively in a central attacking role when Jamal Musiala was sidelined with a long-term injury, underlining his tactical intelligence and adaptability.
As the season progressed, Bayern opened talks over a new contract, with Gnabry reportedly agreeing to a reduced salary in order to secure a two-year extension — a gesture that played a key role in finalising the agreement.
Experience Remains Vital for Bayern
While Gnabry may no longer be a guaranteed starter in every match, his experience continues to be highly valued by Bayern, particularly in high-pressure fixtures. Although his goal output is not as prolific as in previous years, his versatility across the front line offers head coach Vincent Kompany significant tactical options.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Gnabry is regarded as an important presence in the dressing room. His resilience and determination to reclaim his place after a difficult spell have made him a strong role model for younger attacking players within the squad.
Bayern lost considerable attacking experience last summer following the departures of Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller for varying reasons. In that context, retaining Gnabry was viewed as a strategic necessity. From a financial standpoint, his willingness to accept reduced terms made the decision straightforward for the club.
With the extension secured, Bayern can now turn their attention to finalising further renewals as they continue to shape their squad for the coming seasons.
