Atlético Madrid Agree Personal Terms with Ederson Ahead of Summer Move

Atlético Madrid are making early moves in the transfer market, with sporting director Mateu Alemany progressing plans for the club’s first signing ahead of the 2026 summer window.

The Spanish side are preparing for a significant squad overhaul, with the departure of Antoine Griezmann already confirmed following his move to Orlando City SC during the March international break.

Alemany is actively working on reinforcements, with Kang-in Lee reportedly identified as a leading candidate to replace Griezmann. Meanwhile, Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza were brought in during January to provide cover in midfield, although both are viewed as long-term development prospects. Conor Gallagher’s absence had highlighted the need for further depth in the position.

Agreement Reached with Ederson

Atlético’s primary midfield target is Ederson dos Santos of Atalanta BC. The club are keen to secure a deal early in order to avoid competition—particularly from Arsenal FC, who have also been linked with the player.

According to reports from RadioMarca, Atlético have already reached an agreement on personal terms with the Brazilian midfielder, who has given his approval to the proposed move.

Negotiations with Atalanta Ongoing

Attention now turns to reaching an agreement with Atalanta. Alemany was recently seen in Italy alongside club president Antonio Percassi, reportedly holding discussions over a potential transfer.

Further reports, including from journalist Matteo Moretto, indicate that negotiations are ongoing. The deal is expected to be valued between €35 million and €40 million, with Ederson entering the final year of his current contract.

Midfield Reinforcement a Priority

Alemany has previously confirmed the club’s interest in Ederson, whose arrival would represent a strong statement of intent as Atlético look to strengthen their midfield options.

Should the move be completed, Ederson is expected to compete directly with Johnny Cardoso for a place in central midfield, providing a level of depth that head coach Diego Simeone has lacked in recent seasons.
