Four Toddlers Killed in Daycare Stabbing Attack in Kampala, Uganda
Four young children have been tragically stabbed to death at a daycare center in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, in an incident that has shocked the local community and the nation at large.
According to police, the victims—toddlers aged between two and three years old—were attacked on Thursday by a male suspect who reportedly gained access to the kindergarten by pretending to be a parent. This deception allowed him to enter the premises without raising immediate suspicion.
Eyewitness accounts and local media reports indicate that the attack occurred in the upscale Ggaba area, where the daycare facility is located. After carrying out the assault, the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was confronted by outraged residents. Some members of the community reportedly tried to lynch him before he was subdued by a security guard from a nearby church.
When security forces, including police and military personnel, arrived at the scene, they had to fire warning shots into the air to disperse the increasingly agitated crowd. The suspect was then taken into custody.
Police confirmed that the four children died instantly from the attack. A police spokesperson described the incident as deeply tragic, stating that it took place at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Kampala’s Makindye Division.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect had visited the daycare center on two separate occasions prior to the incident, expressing interest in enrolling a child. He was reportedly asked to return on the day of the attack, during which he spoke with the school’s director and even paid admission fees before suddenly launching the deadly assault.
Authorities have stated that the motive behind the killings remains unknown and is currently under investigation.
The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, visited the scene shortly after the incident and appealed to the public to remain calm while investigations continue. He also urged anyone with useful information about the suspect to come forward and assist law enforcement.
Videos circulating on social media showed distraught parents gathered outside the daycare center, many in visible distress as they searched for information about their children and demanded access to the premises.
Reports indicate that there were 14 children present at the daycare at the time of the attack. While four lost their lives, the remaining ten children were safely reunited with their parents. The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to a mortuary as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
