Atalanta ended Juventus’ Coppa Italia campaign with a clinical victory, capitalising on their chances to secure progression and eliminate the Bianconeri despite periods of sustained pressure from the hosts.
Atalanta Knock Juventus Out of Italian Cup
Juventus began the contest with intensity and authority, taking early control of possession and tempo. Their first meaningful opportunity arrived after 15 minutes when Francisco Conceição surged down the right flank and delivered a powerful cross towards David, whose well-timed run went unrewarded as he failed to apply the finishing touch.
Conceição continued to trouble the Atalanta defence, driving forward aggressively and breaking through on goal moments later, only to be denied by an excellent save from Marco Carnesecchi. The Portuguese winger came even closer in the 20th minute, cutting inside onto his left foot and unleashing a fierce strike that rattled the crossbar.
Despite Juventus enjoying their strongest spell of the match, it was Atalanta who struck first. In the 27th minute, Gianluca Scamacca calmly converted from the penalty spot to give the visitors the lead.
Juventus responded immediately. Bremer rose highest in the area following an attacking move, but his header drifted narrowly wide. Soon after, Weston McKennie found space in the box following a corner, but Atalanta’s defence reacted quickly to block his effort just as he prepared to shoot. The first half ended with Atalanta holding a 1–0 advantage.
The second half opened with Atalanta asserting control, dominating possession during the opening 15 minutes. Juventus had a promising opportunity when Kalulu slipped a pass into the area for David, but the move was halted by a last-ditch defensive intervention.
Midway through the half, Andrea Cambiaso created a clear opening, finding David in the box. The forward laid the ball off to McKennie, who turned sharply onto his left foot, but his effort narrowly missed the target.
Juventus debutant Boga made an immediate impact, threading a precise pass from the edge of the final third to Kelly, who hesitated in the box and failed to guide his header on target. Moments later, Boga again used his pace to beat his marker down the left before delivering a dangerous ball across the six-yard box. McKennie attacked the space but could not apply the decisive touch from close range.
As Juventus pushed forward desperately in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, they were punished on the counter. Atalanta struck twice late on through Sulemana and Mario Pašalić, sealing the victory and confirming Juventus’ exit from the Italian Cup.
The result underlined Atalanta’s efficiency and composure, while Juventus were left to rue missed opportunities as their cup run came to an abrupt end.
