Arsenal secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2025–2026 UEFA Champions League following a goalless draw against Sporting CP at the Emirates Stadium, progressing 1–0 on aggregate.

Mikel Arteta’s side entered the second leg with a narrow advantage courtesy of Kai Havertz’s decisive strike in Lisbon a week earlier, and that proved sufficient despite an unconvincing display in north London.

Sporting came close to levelling the tie in the first half when Geny Catamo struck the post after a dangerous volley, while the visitors also threatened through Francisco Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves, exposing moments of uncertainty in the Arsenal defence.

The hosts struggled to assert control for long periods, with David Raya called into action on several occasions, including a scare when a misplaced pass presented Gonçalves with a clear opportunity that went unpunished.

Despite the tension, Arsenal gradually steadied after the interval. Gabriel Martinelli fired over from a promising position, while Noni Madueke struck the side netting as the Gunners searched for a goal to ease nerves.

A notable moment came just after the hour mark with the introduction of 16-year-old Max Dowman, whose lively cameo injected fresh energy into the contest. His corner delivery later led to Leandro Trossard heading against the post, the closest Arsenal came to extending their lead on the night.

Sporting also appealed for a penalty following a challenge involving Cristhian Mosquera, but referee François Letexier waved away the protests.

Although the performance lacked fluency, Arsenal ultimately did enough to see out the tie and advance to the last four for a second consecutive season — a first in the club’s history.

They will now face Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Spain before the return fixture in London.

Attention now turns to domestic matters, with a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City looming, as Arsenal continue their pursuit of the league title.
