The cause of death of American television personality and celebrity chef Anne Burrell has officially been confirmed as suicide.

According to the New York Office of Chief Medical Examiner, Burrell died from “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.”

The long-time co-host of Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America passed away at her residence in New York City on 17 June. She was 55 years old.

The New York City Police Department reported that Burrell was found “unconscious and unresponsive” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Known for her iconic spiky blonde hair and vivacious personality, Burrell was a beloved figure in the culinary television world.

In a heartfelt statement at the time, her family said:

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend – her smile lit up every room she entered.
Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Burrell began her television career as a sous chef on Iron Chef America, later rising to greater prominence with her Emmy-nominated series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which ran for nine seasons.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in October 2021.
