Russian Airstrike Kills Four in Kyiv, Destroys Residential Building

At least four people have been confirmed dead following a devastating overnight missile and drone attack carried out by Russian forces on Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv. Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, shared the grim update via social media, describing the destruction as widespread and tragic. According to his statement, several residential neighborhoods, hospitals, and sports facilities were directly hit during the assault, which occurred under the cover of darkness when most residents were asleep.
Klymenko highlighted the severe damage in the Shevchenkivskyi district, one of the city’s central and most densely populated areas. “An entire section of a residential high-rise building was destroyed,” he said, emphasizing the scale of the devastation. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly at the scene, where it is feared that several individuals remain trapped beneath the rubble. The full extent of the casualties is still unfolding as emergency crews continue their efforts to reach those buried under debris.
The surrounding Kyiv region also suffered from the attack. Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the regional administration, reported that a woman was killed and two others were injured in the strikes. These tragic events are part of a growing pattern of Russian aerial assaults that have intensified in recent weeks, with critical infrastructure and civilian areas increasingly targeted in Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) stated that at least 13 people were injured in the capital, among them two children and a pregnant woman. The agency released harrowing video footage that showed residents, visibly shaken and covered in dust, being led away from a destroyed high-rise that was still smoldering. Multiple fires were reported across Kyiv, stretching emergency response teams to their limits.
Local officials also confirmed that an entrance to one of Kyiv’s underground metro stations sustained damage during the bombardment. Many city residents, fearing for their lives, spent the night huddled in the underground network, which has become a regular refuge during such attacks.
Despite the increasing frequency and intensity of these strikes, the Russian military has not commented on this latest offensive. Since launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces have continued to target civilian centers, often drawing international condemnation. The continued assaults have left millions of Ukrainians living in fear, with each day bringing new destruction and loss.
