Paul Pogba has reportedly taken a significant step towards resuming his professional football career by agreeing a two-year contract with a new club, according to reports.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder had initially received a four-year ban from football following a failed drugs test. However, that suspension was later reduced to 18 months after it was determined that Pogba had inadvertently taken a banned substance.

In its final judgement, the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that Pogba had ingested DHEA, a substance known to boost testosterone and included on WADA’s prohibited list. The ruling noted, however, that DHEA primarily has a performance-enhancing effect on females.

With his ban having officially expired earlier this year, Pogba has been widely linked with a return to the game this summer. According to Le Parisien, the 31-year-old has now agreed terms with Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

The report claims Pogba made "significant financial sacrifices" to finalise the move, prioritising his return to top-flight football over financial gain. Negotiations are said to have taken place over several days, with an agreement on the financial terms finally reached on Sunday.

It is also reported that Pogba travelled to the Principality earlier in June to meet with Monaco officials and began making preparations for his relocation. These included arranging a new personal driver, finalising accommodation plans, and reviewing security measures.

Although Pogba has not played a competitive match since September 2023, he has regularly shared updates of his training regime on social media, signalling his determination to reignite his football career.

A move to Monaco would see Pogba return to the UEFA Champions League, with the club having secured a third-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, behind runners-up Marseille and champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Remarkably, despite earning 91 caps for France and lifting the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Les Bleus, Pogba has never previously featured in France’s domestic top-flight.

He came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before moving to Juventus, then returned to Old Trafford in a then-record transfer in 2016. In 2022, he rejoined Juventus on a free transfer.

Earlier this week, Pogba was pictured participating in a pre-season training session with a group of young players, including Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and summer signing Leny Yoro, who joined from Ligue 1 club Lille.

The trio are believed to be training in Florida, where Pogba was spotted wearing a vintage Juventus shirt while continuing his fitness work.
