Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, visited Ankara to strengthen cooperation with Türkiye on security, counterterrorism, and narcotics control. The delegation met Turkish officials, toured key security departments, and discussed operational collaboration. The visit highlights ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral ties, build counterterrorism expertise, and expand trade and defence partnerships.

Pakistan's Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, has concluded a two-day official visit to Ankara, during which he reaffirmed Islamabad's commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration with Türkiye in key areas such as security, counterterrorism, and narcotics control, according to officials. The visit reflects the ongoing efforts by both countries to enhance operational coordination and build stronger bilateral ties.
Chaudhry led a high-level delegation that included the interior secretary and heads of significant departments within Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior. The delegation engaged in a series of meetings with their Turkish counterparts, including a joint session with Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Interior, Munir Karaloglu, and other senior officials. These discussions were aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two interior ministries, particularly in strategies to address security challenges and combat transnational threats.
As part of the visit, the Pakistani delegation toured several critical Turkish institutions, including the national police, counterterrorism units, immigration authorities, and narcotics departments. These visits allowed for detailed exchanges on best practices, operational strategies, and the potential for joint initiatives. The delegation sought to learn from Türkiye’s extensive experience in implementing counterterrorism measures and managing complex security threats, which could serve as a model for Pakistan’s own efforts against groups such as Daesh and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
On the occasion of Ramadan, Talal Chaudhry conveyed warm greetings from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He emphasized Pakistan’s desire to work closely with Türkiye to ensure peace, security, and the achievement of effective outcomes in matters of national and regional security. His message highlighted the importance of maintaining strong institutional ties and fostering continuous collaboration between the two countries’ security apparatus.
Türkiye has long been recognized for successfully neutralizing terror-related threats within its borders, particularly those posed by groups like Daesh and the PKK. Pakistan hopes to draw lessons from these experiences to enhance its own counterterrorism capabilities. The Ankara visit forms part of a broader strategy by both nations to deepen their relationship across multiple sectors.
In recent years, Pakistan and Türkiye have consistently sought to strengthen their bilateral cooperation. In July of the previous year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed their determination to enhance collaboration across key areas including trade, defence, energy, connectivity, and investment. Additionally, in September 2025, Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler visited Islamabad for the 16th session of the Türkiye-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission. During this visit, Guler highlighted the growing economic engagement between the two countries, noting that Turkish contractors had successfully completed 72 major projects in Pakistan valued at approximately $3.5 billion. Bilateral trade has also shown significant growth, surpassing $1.4 billion, representing a 35 percent year-on-year increase, with both sides targeting a trade volume of $5 billion in the near future.
Türkiye remains one of Pakistan’s largest arms suppliers and continues to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s defence infrastructure. The visit by Minister Talal Chaudhry reinforces the shared commitment of both nations to expand collaboration in security, counterterrorism, and economic sectors, underscoring the strategic importance of the Pakistan-Türkiye partnership in the region.
