At least 15 Indian tourists have died after a boat carrying company employees and business partners capsized near Vietnam's popular Phu Quoc Island, according to local authorities.
The accident happened near May Rut Ngoai Islet, about 400 metres from the shore, when the tourist boat overturned while carrying 36 people.
Emergency rescue teams quickly responded to the scene and managed to save many of those on board.
Officials also recovered the bodies of all those who lost their lives.
The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are underway.
The embassy said it had established emergency control rooms at the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Embassy in Hanoi to assist survivors and the families of the victims.
Indian officials are working closely with Vietnamese authorities throughout the rescue and investigation.
He said the group had travelled to Vietnam to attend an annual meeting organised by a private mobile phone company.
According to reports, many of those on board were employees and distributors of Lava Mobile from Andhra Pradesh, India.
Officials are expected to examine weather conditions, the condition of the vessel and other possible factors.
The incident has shocked both India and Vietnam and raised fresh concerns about safety standards for tourist boats operating in popular holiday destinations.
