Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Visit Türkiye for Talks with Erdogan
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to embark on an official visit to Türkiye on Tuesday following an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to a statement issued on Monday by Türkiye’s communications director. The visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding diplomatic and strategic ties between the two countries, which have continued to grow over the years across various sectors.
Türkiye’s Communications Director, Burhanettin Duran, announced the visit in a post shared on the country’s social media platform, NSosyal. He explained that discussions between the two leaders will include a thorough review of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Somalia in all their aspects. The talks are also expected to explore practical steps that can be taken to deepen cooperation, particularly in areas such as security, economic development, humanitarian assistance, and capacity building.
In addition to bilateral matters, the meetings will address the latest developments in Somalia’s ongoing fight against terrorism. The leaders are expected to exchange views on security challenges facing Somalia and the measures being taken by the Somali Federal Government to counter extremist threats. Efforts aimed at strengthening national unity and political stability in Somalia will also be a key focus of the discussions, alongside an assessment of current regional developments and their implications for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.
