Somali Ambassador to Türkiye Praises Turkish Government’s Support
Somalia's Ambassador to Türkiye, Fathudin Ali Mohamed Ospite, has expressed deep appreciation to the Turkish Government, as well as to partner nations, for their continued solidarity and firm support for Somalia during a period of heightened regional sensitivity. The ambassador underscored that this sustained backing reflects strong diplomatic ties and a shared commitment to peace, stability, and respect for international law.
His remarks follow Israel's recognition of Somaliland on December 26, a development that has drawn widespread condemnation from Türkiye and several other countries. The move has been viewed by Somalia and its allies as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, raising concerns about its implications for regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
On Monday, Ambassador Ospite publicly commended Türkiye for its steadfast and principled support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and internationally recognised borders. He noted that Türkiye has consistently stood by Somalia in moments of challenge, demonstrating a clear and unwavering position at both regional and international platforms.
In his statement, the envoy highlighted Türkiye’s long-standing commitment to Somalia, describing it as reliable, consistent, and deeply rooted in mutual understanding. He further characterised the relationship between Somalia and Türkiye as an enduring partnership founded on mutual respect, shared values, and close cooperation across political, economic, security, and humanitarian sectors.
The Somali ambassador also extended his gratitude to the Turkic States for their collective support of Somalia’s sovereignty at what he described as a critical moment, when unity and respect for international norms are essential for maintaining regional peace and stability.
Reaffirming the position of the Somali Government, Ambassador Ospite stated that Mogadishu remains firm and resolute in its determination to safeguard Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stressed that the Somali Government will not relent in defending the country’s unity and internationally recognised borders.
He further emphasised that Somalia will continue to employ all measures available within its legal and constitutional mandate to protect its borders. These actions, he said, will be carried out in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, all of which uphold the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
In addition to addressing diplomatic matters, Ambassador Ospite conveyed Somalia’s solidarity with the Turkish Government following the deaths of Turkish law enforcement officers who were martyred in Yalova on Monday during an operation targeting Daesh terrorists. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss and acknowledged the sacrifices made by Turkish security forces in the fight against terrorism.
The ambassador extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen officers and reaffirmed Somalia’s unwavering support for Türkiye in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms. He noted that Somalia stands shoulder to shoulder with Türkiye and the international community in the shared struggle against extremist violence.
