Liberian authorities say they have made the largest cocaine seizure in the country's history after raiding a suspected drug storage facility on the outskirts of Monrovia, exposing the growing challenge of international drug trafficking in West Africa.
The joint operation, known as Operation Duazon, was carried out on Tuesday in Duazon, a town about 20 kilometres east of the Liberian capital.
According to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), officers recovered high-purity cocaine estimated to have a street value of about $370 million.
Several suspects were arrested during the operation, including two foreign nationals. Investigators reportedly recovered passports linked to Spain, Colombia and Serbia as they began tracing the suspected international network behind the shipment.

Authorities released photographs and video footage showing dozens of boxes loaded onto a vehicle at the scene.

The shipment had reportedly been falsely labelled as food seasoning and textiles in an attempt to conceal the drugs.
The airport seizure sparked public criticism over the handling of the investigation after allegations that some suspects had managed to leave the country before they could be arrested.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS CRACKDOWN AFTER PUBLIC OUTCRY

Following the airport incident, President Joseph Boakai ordered a joint investigation involving the Liberia National Police and the LDEA.
The government subsequently directed prosecutors to pursue charges against suspects who remained at large and sought international arrest warrants for those believed to have fled the country.
The latest record seizure is likely to increase pressure on the government to strengthen Liberia's drug enforcement system and prevent the country from becoming a major hub for international trafficking.
