Farouk Mohammed Kawo, the Niger State Chairperson of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), told reporters that most of the casualties were among the residents who had gathered to scoop petrol from the overturned tanker before the explosion occurred. Hajiya Aishatu Sa’adu, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State, confirmed that officials are still conducting rescue operations at the scene. She added that the accident has caused severe traffic congestion along the busy Katcha-Agae expressway, further complicating emergency response efforts. Authorities have urged motorists and residents to exercise caution while traveling in the area and to avoid approaching accident sites, particularly those involving fuel-laden vehicles.
