Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with West Ham United to sign forward Mohammed Kudus in a deal worth £55 million, according to reports, signalling a shift in their transfer strategy and casting doubt over their pursuit of Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo.

The 24-year-old Ghana international is set to undergo a medical at Spurs before signing a six-year contract, becoming the first signing under new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.

Mbeumo Interest Cools as Spurs Prioritise Kudus
Frank, who joined Spurs after leaving Brentford, had been keen to reunite with Bryan Mbeumo. However, the Cameroon forward is understood to prefer a move to Manchester United, having reportedly turned down Spurs. The Red Devils are now seen as frontrunners for his signature.

With Mbeumo seemingly out of reach, Spurs turned their full attention to Kudus. An initial £50 million bid was rejected by West Ham last week, but a revised offer has now been accepted, according to The Athletic.

Personal terms are not expected to pose any complications, with Kudus said to be eager to join the north London club.

Kudus Secured Below Release Clause
Tottenham’s deal comes in below Kudus' £85 million release clause, which applies only to Premier League clubs during the first ten days of July. The clause stipulates an £80 million fee for overseas sides, while Saudi Arabian clubs would be required to pay £120 million.

Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023 for £38 million. During his time at the London Stadium, he made 65 Premier League appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists, according to The Mirror.

Tottenham Strengthening in Attack
The Kudus deal follows the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for £38 million, also on a six-year deal. Tel had impressed during a loan spell in the second half of last season, playing a pivotal role in Tottenham’s Europa League triumph, which ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

Frank Still Rates Mbeumo Highly
Despite Tottenham’s decision not to pursue Mbeumo further, Frank remains a staunch admirer of the player, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season. The former Brentford boss previously suggested the west London club should demand a substantial fee for their prized asset.

Speaking to Sky Sports while still Brentford manager, Frank said:

“I'm the head coach. I want my best players to stay forever. I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford — he's thriving, doing well and playing fantastic.

“What happens in the future? I don't know. I've said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time, we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world that aren't selling clubs.

“So, of course, if the right price — and that's going to be expensive — is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open to it. But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”
