Robert Lewandowski could be edging closer to the next chapter of his career, with reports suggesting the veteran striker is travelling to the United States for discussions over a potential move to Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.

The Poland international became a free agent following his departure from Barcelona and has been repeatedly linked with the American club throughout the 2025–26 season.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Lewandowski is expected to hold talks with Chicago Fire and has been presented with a contract proposal believed to span between two and three years.

Further reports from Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk suggest that the striker is seriously considering the opportunity, although no final decision has yet been made regarding his future.

Chicago Fire Make Their Interest Clear

Chicago Fire have made little attempt to hide their admiration for the former Barcelona forward.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter previously acknowledged the club’s interest and confirmed discussions had taken place with both the player and his representatives.

“First of all, I don’t think there aren’t other offers. I find it hard to believe it.

“I’m sure a player of his calibre should have offers.

“As for our communication, we have had a lot — both with him and with his entourage.”

Berhalter also outlined why the club believes Lewandowski would be a major addition.

“I can speak frankly because he is no longer a Barcelona player, or he will not be next week.

“He’s someone we want to sign.

“We believe that both the Polish community and the entire Chicago community support this transfer.

“We believe he is a fantastic signing for the club, the city and the league.”

MLS Move Emerging as Leading Option

Lewandowski had also been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Italy following his exit from Spain.

However, a move to Major League Soccer now appears to be among the strongest possibilities.

Should an agreement be reached, the transfer would represent another major acquisition for MLS and potentially one of the league’s highest-profile arrivals in recent years.

For Lewandowski, the decision now centres on whether to continue competing in Europe or embrace a new challenge in the United States as he enters the next stage of an already distinguished career.
