European heavyweights including Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus are set to compete in a pre-season showcase in Hong Kong this August, as part of the inaugural Hong Kong Football Festival.

The tournament will begin on 1 August, when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City face Inter Milan at the state-of-the-art Kai Tak Stadium, a 50,000-capacity venue equipped with a retractable roof and air-conditioning to counter the region’s intense summer conditions.

City, who are currently locked in a Premier League title race, are expected to feature star striker Erling Haaland, while Inter arrive in strong domestic form under head coach Cristian Chivu.

Chelsea to Meet Juventus

The mini-tournament will conclude on 5 August, with Chelsea taking on Juventus in another high-profile fixture.

Juventus, led by Luciano Spalletti, are currently pushing for a top-four finish in Serie A, while Inter sit comfortably at the summit of the Italian league, eyeing what would be their 21st league title — second only to Juventus’ record tally.

Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to navigate a period of transition. Despite their Club World Cup triumph last year, the club have since parted ways with former manager Enzo Maresca.

His successor, Liam Rosenior, remains under pressure following a disappointing run of domestic results, with the London side slipping to sixth in the Premier League after losing five of their last six matches.

Star Attraction for Fans

Supporters in Hong Kong will also have the opportunity to attend open training sessions ahead of the matches, offering a rare chance to see some of world football’s biggest names up close, including Cole Palmer, Lautaro Martínez and Dušan Vlahović.

Further Fixtures Announced

The summer schedule in Hong Kong extends beyond the tournament, with Bayern Munich and Aston Villa also confirming a friendly clash on 7 August.

The city has become an increasingly popular destination for elite pre-season tours. Last year, capacity crowds of 50,000 witnessed fixtures between Liverpool and AC Milan, as well as a historic North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal — the first ever to be staged outside the United Kingdom.

With strong fan engagement and a growing appetite for elite football, this year’s event is expected to attract similar levels of excitement and attendance.
