Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is reportedly attracting major interest ahead of the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals Chelsea all monitoring his situation closely as uncertainty continues to surround his future at Anfield.

According to widespread reports, the France international may have already played his final match for Liverpool after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract with the club.

Konate, who has featured 51 times across all competitions this season, had been engaged in discussions over an extension for several months and recently suggested that positive progress had been made.

Speaking last month, the 27-year-old said: “Many things have been said, but we have been speaking with the club for a long time and we are close to an agreement.

“There is a strong possibility that I will still be here next season. That is what I have always wanted.”

However, despite those comments, reports now suggest negotiations have broken down amid tensions surrounding what has been described as a disruptive campaign at Anfield. As a result, the defender is now expected to leave on a free transfer.

Interest in Konate continues to intensify, with French outlet L’Equipe reporting that both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are keen on securing his signature after closely monitoring developments at Liverpool over recent months.

In a surprising twist, Chelsea have also reportedly entered the race for the highly-rated centre-back.

The Blues are believed to be preparing an ambitious move as part of a major rebuilding project under new manager Xabi Alonso, who is said to be eager to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season.

According to reports from Defensa Central, Alonso personally recommended Konate during his early spell as Real Madrid manager and discussed the defender’s qualities with club president Florentino Perez.

Konate joined Liverpool from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in 2021 in a deal worth £36 million. Since arriving at Anfield, he has made 183 appearances and played an important role in the club’s recent success, helping Liverpool win the Premier League, two Carabao Cups and the FA Cup.

Chelsea are also expected to be active in the transfer market beyond their interest in Konate.

Reports suggest Alonso sought guarantees regarding the club’s transfer strategy and managerial authority before agreeing to become Chelsea’s new head coach.

One player who remains firmly on Chelsea’s radar is AC Milan and France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The experienced shot-stopper is highly admired within Stamford Bridge circles and was reportedly close to joining Chelsea last summer. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Maignan had already agreed personal terms with the Blues before negotiations collapsed due to disagreements over his valuation.

Chelsea are now believed to have reignited their pursuit as they continue searching for a long-term upgrade on current first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

Reports from Italy state: “Chelsea have never forgotten Mike, although discussions remain at an exploratory stage for now.

“However, depending on how AC Milan’s season concludes, the situation could quickly develop into something more concrete.”

AC Milan endured a disappointing campaign after failing to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League — a season reportedly labelled an “unequivocal failure” by the club’s hierarchy.
