Kylian Mbappe has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that Real Madrid examined the wrong knee following the injury he sustained late last year, describing the claims as entirely false.

The controversy originated from a report on French broadcaster RMC Sport’s programme After Foot, which alleged that the Spanish club had mistakenly scanned Mbappe’s right knee instead of his left after he suffered the injury in December. The claim quickly gained traction across international media.

However, speaking at a press conference ahead of France’s international friendly against Brazil, Mbappe categorically rejected the suggestion.

“The report stating that they examined the wrong knee is false,” he said.

While refuting the allegation, the France international acknowledged that limited communication surrounding his condition may have contributed to the speculation.

“I may be indirectly responsible for this situation, because when there is a lack of communication about what is happening, it leaves room for different interpretations,” he explained.

Mbappe had previously confirmed in December that he suffered a sprain to his left knee. Despite the injury, he continued to feature throughout January before being sidelined for approximately three and a half weeks. He has since returned to action, making substitute appearances in his last two matches for Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old forward also stressed that there has been no confusion within the club regarding his condition.

“I have very clear communication with Real Madrid,” he added.

Currently in Boston, Mbappe is part of the France squad preparing to face Brazil in an international friendly in Foxborough on Thursday, before taking on Colombia in Landover on Sunday.

Reflecting on the period of injury earlier this week in Paris, Mbappe admitted it had a significant emotional impact.

“There was a great deal of frustration, anger, and at one point even anxiety,” he said. “I reached a stage where I did not fully understand what was wrong with me. I did not handle that period in the best possible way, and I was not the happiest player. But I am happy now because it is all behind me.”

France head coach Didier Deschamps has yet to confirm whether Mbappe will start in the upcoming fixtures.
