West Ham United strengthened their Premier League survival hopes with a hard-fought goalless draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, a result which also confirmed Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation to the Championship.

The stalemate proved significant in the battle to avoid the drop, lifting West Ham two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, while Palace — with a game in hand — moved within five points of Brentford in the race for a potential European spot.

Missed Chances Define First Half

Palace had the clearest early opportunity when Brennan Johnson, left unmarked, failed to convert a free header from a well-delivered cross by Jefferson Lerma.

The hosts continued to press, with Jørgen Strand Larsen unable to direct an effort goalwards, while Valentín Castellanos fired over from distance.

West Ham, however, grew into the contest and threatened through set-pieces. Dean Henderson was called into action to produce a crucial save, denying Konstantinos Mavropanos with a sharp header.

Defensive Resilience on Display

Both sides demonstrated defensive solidity, with Maxence Lacroix producing an important block to thwart Castellanos after an inventive overhead attempt inside the penalty area.

Despite West Ham finishing the first half strongly, Henderson’s alert goalkeeping ensured the match remained goalless at the interval.

Second Half Lacks Cutting Edge

The visitors carried their momentum into the second half but were unable to find a breakthrough. At the opposite end, Mads Hermansen dealt comfortably with Palace’s attacking efforts, including a cross from Johnson.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner attempted to inject fresh energy into his side with a triple substitution, introducing Daichi Kamada, Ismaïla Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

However, clear-cut chances remained scarce. Henderson denied Castellanos once more, while Mateta and Sarr both failed to trouble the West Ham defence with their efforts.

Sarr did find the net late on, but the goal was swiftly disallowed due to a handball by Mateta in the build-up.

Points Shared in Tense Finale

West Ham pushed for a late winner, earning a stoppage-time corner, but Palace held firm to ensure the points were shared.

The result represents a valuable outcome for the Hammers as they edge closer to Premier League safety, while confirming Wolves’ relegation in what has been a fiercely contested survival battle.
