Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer as head coach Roberto De Zerbi continues his efforts to rebuild the club’s defence ahead of the new Premier League season.
Tottenham Complete Marcos Senesi Signing as Roberto De Zerbi Continues Squad Rebuild
The north London side confirmed Senesi’s arrival on Wednesday following the expiry of his contract at Bournemouth.
The 29-year-old Argentina international leaves the south coast after three seasons with the Cherries, having joined the club from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2022.
During his time at Bournemouth, Senesi made 128 appearances across all competitions and established himself as a consistent presence in defence. However, after deciding not to extend his stay, he has opted for a fresh challenge with Spurs.
Speaking after completing the move, Senesi expressed his excitement about joining the club.
“It’s a very special feeling to be a Tottenham Hotspur player.
“From the first moment, the club has shown why they want me and how much they want me to be a part of what they are building.
“It’s exciting and something I can’t wait to be involved in.”
De Zerbi Targets Defensive Improvement
Senesi becomes another addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad as the Italian manager looks to strengthen an area that has troubled Tottenham in recent seasons.
De Zerbi guided Spurs to Premier League survival after collecting 11 points from seven tense matches and is now focused on building a more competitive side.
Tottenham’s defensive record has been a major concern, with the club conceding 122 goals across the previous two Premier League campaigns and finishing 17th in both seasons.
Senesi’s arrival follows the recent acquisition of left-back Andy Robertson, who also joined on a free transfer after departing Liverpool.
De Zerbi believes the Argentine defender will bring important qualities to his evolving side.
“Marcos’s experience, quality on the ball and competitive edge will strengthen us defensively, as well as giving us flexibility in formation.
“He’s comfortable playing in a possession-based team, reads the game very well and has the personality to thrive in a demanding environment.
“I also love his mentality and desire to keep improving and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing the big contribution he can make to the team.”
With defensive reinforcements arriving early in the transfer window, Tottenham will hope Senesi’s experience and composure can help establish greater stability as De Zerbi begins shaping the next phase of the club’s rebuild.
