Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal shared his thoughts following the 3-3 draw against Club Brugge in the Champions League, where the teenager delivered another standout performance.

The 17-year-old scored a stunning equaliser to make it 2-2 and later forced an own goal that secured a point for Hansi Flick’s side, ensuring Barcelona avoided defeat in Belgium.

Speaking after the match, Yamal admitted that while the team showed character to fight back, there is still room for improvement.

“We are Barça and we always have to win. But we’re already thinking about the next league match. It’s a very difficult pitch. It’s hard to win when you concede three goals — that’s what we need to improve,” he said.

Reflecting on his individual performance, the young forward added:

“I tried my best. It was a very quick move, and Fermín’s backheel set me up perfectly. I’m just sad that we couldn’t take all three points. Hopefully, next time we will.”

Yamal also addressed recent rumours surrounding his fitness and emotional state.

“There’s been a lot of talk about my pubalgia and that I was sad — it was all lies. I’m working hard to stay fit and perform at this level, which is when I feel happiest and enjoy football the most.”

Despite being one of the most talked-about teenagers in world football, Yamal remains grounded, refusing to entertain comparisons with Lionel Messi after his brilliant solo goal.

“Messi has scored thousands of goals like that, so I can’t compare myself to him. I’m just trying to improve and follow my own path. Hopefully, I’ll score more goals like this in the future.”

Yamal also responded calmly to the reaction from the Brugge crowd, saying criticism comes with the territory.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence if they boo you. If they do, it means they know you’re doing your job well. I don’t let it bother me.”

Barcelona now return to Spain to prepare for their upcoming La Liga fixture against Celta Vigo before the international break. Yamal is widely expected to be named in Spain’s squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
