Sportable’s Lightweight Portable System (LPS) has become the first AI-powered portable tracking technology to receive official FIFA certification.
Sportable Secures FIFA Approval for AI-Driven Player and Ball Tracking Technology
The internationally patented system tracks both players and smart balls, capturing every moment of a match or training session. Designed for universal application, it can be deployed anywhere from school pitches to elite professional environments.
Using lightweight wireless anchors, the LPS generates a real-time 3D map of player and ball movement. Its AI-driven platform automatically identifies and categorises match events, delivering live telemetry and comprehensive performance data.
At FIFA’s recent annual Electronic Performance and Tracking Systems (EPTS) testing event in Leiria, Portugal, Sportable achieved two key accreditations:
‘FIFA Basic’ certification for its Player Tracking Tag, validating its safety and conformity as a high-performance wearable device.
‘FIFA Quality’ certification for its EPTS Tracking Results, confirming high-level accuracy, consistency, and precision across positional data.
Launched a decade ago, the FIFA Quality Programme for EPTS sets the global standard for accuracy, reliability, and robustness in football tracking systems. Independent assessments cover criteria including positional precision, consistency, latency and system durability.
Pete Husemeyer, Chief Technology Officer at Sportable, described the approval as a major milestone.
“Achieving FIFA certification for our Portable LPS is a landmark moment for Sportable. It validates the years of innovation and dedication behind our technology, and it proves that portability and precision can go hand in hand. Coaches, analysts and players can have complete confidence in the accuracy of our data.”
Sportable says the system is capable of delivering insights across the entire team-sport ecosystem, adding that the company aims to make connected-ball technology standard at every level of sport, “unlocking new dimensions of understanding and engagement.”
Simon Cuff, Sportable’s Senior Vice-President of Football, added:
“These certifications are confirmation that our player and ball tracking systems are ready for the highest levels of competition. We are excited to continue raising the bar for tracking technology across multiple sports worldwide.”
