Nottingham Forest have dismissed head coach Sean Dyche following a disappointing goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers that leaves the club hovering just three points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Dyche departs after less than four months in charge, becoming Forest’s fourth managerial casualty of an increasingly turbulent season.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club confirmed the decision:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them the very best for the future.”

Relegation Concerns Intensify

Forest’s 0-0 draw at the City Ground against bottom-placed Wolves deepened concerns over the club’s top-flight status. Despite registering 35 shots, Dyche’s side were unable to find a breakthrough and were met with boos from sections of the home support at the final whistle.

Speaking after the match, Dyche appeared resigned to the possibility of his dismissal, acknowledging the precarious nature of his position under owner Evangelos Marinakis.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” Dyche said. “If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him. That’s the way football is now — it’s just the reality of it.

“He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way.”

Another Managerial Change

Marinakis has already dismissed Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou this season, and his patience once again appears to have run out following Forest’s inability to convert dominance into goals.

Forest enjoyed a successful campaign under Nuno last season, securing qualification for the Europa League. However, the Portuguese coach was dismissed after reportedly falling out with Marinakis over transfer dealings.

Postecoglou’s tenure lasted just 39 days, while Dyche survived 114 days in the role.

The 54-year-old, formerly of Everton and Burnley, described himself as a “realist” regarding his situation in the hours before his departure — comments that proved prophetic.

Attention Turns to Successor

Marinakis must now appoint yet another manager at a crucial stage of the campaign. Forest are due to travel to Turkey to face Fenerbahçe in the Europa League on 19 February before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League three days later.

With relegation fears mounting and European commitments on the horizon, the club faces a defining period in what has already been a season of instability.
