Prince William was at the heart of Aston Villa’s jubilant Europa League celebrations after the Premier League side secured a historic 3-0 victory over Freiburg in Istanbul on Wednesday night.

The Prince of Wales, a lifelong and passionate supporter of Aston Villa, was pictured proudly holding the Europa League trophy alongside manager Unai Emery following the club’s memorable triumph.

Villa’s victory marked the club’s first major silverware in 30 years and their first European trophy since lifting the European Cup in 1982.

An emotional Prince William was seen celebrating wildly in the stands after the final whistle at the Tupras Stadium, embracing friends and appearing visibly moved as Villa sealed one of the greatest nights in the club’s modern history.

The future King later shared a heartfelt message congratulating the team through Kensington Palace.

“Amazing night!! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware!”

William also paid special tribute to injured midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who has been sidelined with a knee injury in recent months.

“Special shout out to Boubacar Kamara who has been out injured but is such an integral part of our team and helped lay the foundations of this success.”

Emery Delivers Another European Masterclass

Villa once again demonstrated the tactical brilliance of Emery, who secured a record-extending fifth Europa League title as a manager.

Goals from Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendia late in the first half handed Villa complete control before Morgan Rogers added a third after the interval to seal an emphatic victory over the German side.

The triumph capped a remarkable transformation under Emery, who took charge of Villa in 2022 when the club were battling near the Premier League relegation zone.

Since then, the Spaniard has guided Villa back into Europe’s elite while restoring belief and ambition throughout the club.

John McGinn Praises Prince William’s Support

Villa captain John McGinn revealed after the match that Prince William visited the players in the dressing room before kick-off to offer encouragement ahead of the final.

“He is a classy guy,” McGinn told TNT Sports.

“He was in the dressing room before the game. He is a massive Villa fan so he was never going to miss it.”

The Scotland international also joked about the royal celebrations after the match.

“He is just a normal guy. It’s great to have his support and hopefully it continues and tonight he can have a couple of drinks with us and maybe get his credit card out at the end of the night.”

Historic Night for Aston Villa

The victory represented Villa’s first major trophy since winning the League Cup in 1996 and their first continental success since their golden era in the early 1980s.

Striker Ollie Watkins later spoke about the unity and determination within the squad, while supporters celebrated deep into the night both in Istanbul and back in Birmingham.

A trophy parade is expected to take place in Birmingham on Thursday as fans prepare to welcome home their European champions in what promises to be a memorable celebration for the club and its supporters.
