The Premier League will have at least five clubs competing in next season’s UEFA Champions League following Arsenal’s victory over Sporting CP.

Under UEFA’s revised competition format, two additional places—known as European Performance Spots (EPS)—are awarded to the highest-performing leagues across all European competitions. England has led the coefficient rankings for much of the campaign, and Arsenal’s quarter-final win confirmed the division’s place among the top two.

The Premier League currently boasts a coefficient score of 25.013, placing it comfortably ahead of La Liga, the Bundesliga, and Portugal’s top division. Strong performances from English clubs across the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League have underpinned this dominance.

Several sides have contributed significantly to the league’s success, including Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United, alongside strong Europa League campaigns from Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, while Crystal Palace remain in contention in the Conference League.

The development significantly enhances qualification prospects for teams outside the traditional top four, with the battle for European places expected to intensify in the closing stages of the domestic season.

There also remains the possibility of an unprecedented expansion in qualification spots. Should English clubs win European competitions while finishing outside the top four domestically, the Premier League could see up to seven teams feature in next season’s Champions League.
