Pep Guardiola arrived at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday evening without addressing mounting reports suggesting he is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
PEP GUARDIOLA STAYS SILENT ON MANCHESTER CITY EXIT REPORTS AHEAD OF BOURNEMOUTH CLASH
Speculation surrounding Guardiola’s future intensified on Monday night following widespread claims that the City manager intends to step down after Sunday’s final Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
The reigning champions have yet to issue any official statement regarding the reports, while Guardiola himself avoided discussing the situation prior to the crucial league encounter against AFC Bournemouth.
Speaking briefly during a pre-match television interview with Sky Sports, the Catalan coach was asked how much the ongoing speculation had affected preparations for the game.
“Zero,” Guardiola replied.
The match against Bournemouth carried enormous significance for City, who required victory to keep the Premier League title race alive heading into the final day of the campaign.
Should the reports ultimately prove accurate, Guardiola’s departure would mark the end of one of the most successful managerial eras in English football history.
Since arriving at Manchester City in 2016, the former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has transformed City into a dominant force both domestically and in Europe.
Under Guardiola’s leadership, City have won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a historic UEFA Champions League triumph. The club have also lifted the FA Cup on three occasions and secured five League Cup titles during his tenure.
This season alone, Guardiola guided City to another FA Cup triumph after victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.
Reports have also suggested that Guardiola’s former assistant, Enzo Maresca, is among the leading candidates to replace him should he depart the Etihad Stadium.
Maresca previously served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2022/23 before embarking on his own managerial career.
The Italian later guided Leicester City back to the Premier League before taking charge of Chelsea, where he won both the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League during his only full season at Stamford Bridge.
With uncertainty continuing to surround Guardiola’s future, attention now shifts to City’s remaining fixtures and whether the legendary manager is preparing to bring his glittering spell in English football to a close.
