Slovenia manager Matjaž Kek has called on Manchester United to provide clarity over Benjamin Sesko’s injury, accusing the Premier League club of a “lack of respect”.

The Slovenian striker, who came on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, was forced off after less than 30 minutes. United’s medical team attended to him, with manager Ruben Amorim indicating that Sesko had sustained a knee injury and would undergo further assessment.

With the international break approaching, Kek had hoped to call upon Sesko for Slovenia’s World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden, but he has yet to receive any official update from Manchester United. It is understood that Sesko will not be available for the upcoming fixtures.

“With all due respect to a great club like Manchester United, we have officially not received anything yet — no papers, no documents,”
Kek said.
“We would certainly like to get them. We want our medical team to review it. Our doctor is an expert in this field — we do not have just anyone in this position.

“I cannot comment fully, of course, though I do have some information and I am in contact with Beni. But officially, we know nothing. United have not contacted anyone from our camp. Naturally, I am concerned about the player; his wellbeing is all that matters.

“We are prepared to do everything necessary, and we have never fielded a player if there was the slightest risk. The national team is very special, and I expect maximum respect from everyone. Slovenia deserves that, even if on the other side there is a powerhouse like England and something as extraordinary as the Premier League.

“After all, it has been some time since England last defeated Slovenia, and that in itself speaks volumes about us.”

Sesko’s international teammate Andraž Šporar has also confirmed that the forward has yet to link up with the squad ahead of the matches against Kosovo on Saturday and Sweden on 18 November.

“Regarding Beni, we don’t have any information about his knee injury. I hope it’s nothing serious because we really need him for these two matches. I doubt he will come, but I hope it’s not serious, also for the sake of his career,” Šporar said.
“We will definitely miss him, as he is a high-quality footballer. But football is a team sport, and those of us on the field will have to do everything possible to succeed.”
