Lawrence Shankland has bid an emotional farewell to Hearts supporters after completing his transfer to Rangers, describing his time at Tynecastle as a “privilege and honour”.
Lawrence Shankland Pens Emotional Farewell to Hearts Fans Following Rangers Move
The striker officially sealed his move to Ibrox on Tuesday evening after agreeing a two-year contract, with Rangers also holding the option to extend the deal by a further season.
Shankland activated a release clause in his contract to complete the switch, bringing an impressive and memorable four-year spell at Hearts to an end.
Hearts Captain Says Emotional Goodbye
Since arriving from Belgian side Beerschot in 2022, Shankland established himself as one of Hearts’ most important players, scoring 88 goals in 171 appearances across all competitions.
The Scotland international also captained the club and became a hugely popular figure among supporters during one of the strongest periods in recent Hearts history.
The Edinburgh side narrowly missed out on the Premiership title this season after pushing Celtic all the way before eventually finishing second on the final day of the campaign.
Following confirmation of his transfer, Shankland shared an emotional farewell message on social media thanking everyone connected with the club.
“My time at Heart of Midlothian has come to an end, and I want to place on record my sincere thanks to every member of staff, coaching staff and teammate I’ve worked with over the last four years,” Shankland wrote.
“From the moment I walked through the doors of the club, I felt at home.”
‘It Was an Honour to Captain Hearts’
The striker admitted captaining Hearts represented one of the proudest moments of his career.
“It has been a privilege and an honour to represent Hearts for four unforgettable seasons,” he continued.
“To captain Hearts even once would have been special, but to do it as many times as I did fills me with immense pride.
“Leading the team out at Tynecastle was always an incredible feeling — especially last season when the atmosphere was truly unforgettable.”
Shankland also reflected on the achievements he experienced during his spell at the club, including Hearts’ second-place finish and their highest points tally in recent years.
“I leave the club having been part of a second-place finish, the club’s highest points return in the league, 88 goals, and four seasons filled with moments and matches I will never forget,” he added.
“My family and I have loved every minute at the club and meeting so many wonderful people along the way.”
Rangers Move a ‘Boyhood Dream’
The 29-year-old acknowledged that his decision to join Rangers may disappoint some Hearts supporters, but explained that the opportunity to represent the club he supported growing up was impossible to refuse.
“At this stage of my career, the opportunity to join my boyhood club was one I simply couldn’t turn down, and I hope you can understand and respect that decision,” he said.
Shankland concluded his farewell by expressing gratitude towards the Hearts supporters for their backing throughout his time at Tynecastle.
“Hearing my name sung from all four stands of Tynecastle is something I never took for granted,” he wrote.
“I’ll always be grateful for the incredible love and support you showed me throughout my time at the club.
“I wish everyone connected with Hearts nothing but success in the future.”
Hearts Confirm Departure
Hearts also released an official statement confirming Shankland’s departure.
“Heart of Midlothian can confirm that Lawrence Shankland is leaving the club to join Rangers,” the statement read.
“The striker will make the move to Ibrox on undisclosed terms once the summer transfer window opens on June 15.
“We thank Lawrence for all of his efforts during his four years in Gorgie.”
Shankland now begins a new chapter at Rangers after leaving behind a lasting legacy at Hearts, where he developed into both a prolific goalscorer and a respected leader.
