Kylian Mbappé has been released from international duty by France amid concerns over an ankle issue — with Real Madrid teammate Eduardo Camavinga also returning to the Santiago Bernabéu for further medical assessment.

Camavinga, who missed France’s September fixtures due to an ankle problem, was unable to train with the rest of the squad in the build-up to Thursday’s 4–0 victory over Ukraine. He watched from the sidelines as Mbappé delivered a standout performance to help guide Les Bleus towards qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

With Sunday’s clash against Azerbaijan carrying no competitive significance, manager Didier Deschamps has opted to release both Mbappé and Camavinga back to Madrid.

A statement from the French national team confirmed:
“Kylian Mbappé is still experiencing inflammation in his right ankle, which requires further examination.”

The same statement revealed that Camavinga had sustained a minor hamstring strain, though Deschamps moved to calm any fears regarding the midfielder’s condition.

“He will leave on Friday because he had some tests,” Deschamps said. “There is no injury, but he is experiencing some muscle discomfort in his thigh.”

The early release of both players presents an unwelcome concern for Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, who will be hoping for positive updates ahead of the club’s upcoming fixtures.
