Iraq national football team will face Andorra national football team in a friendly match later this month as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Iraqi Football Association has confirmed.
Iraq to face Andorra in Spain friendly as World Cup preparations continue
The fixture is scheduled to take place on 29 May in Spain and forms part of an extended training camp running from 18 May to 5 June, designed to sharpen the squad’s tactical and physical readiness ahead of the tournament.
The agreement for the match was reached between Felix Álvarez and Adnan Dirjal during discussions held on the sidelines of the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver.
Iraq’s programme includes two warm-up matches, beginning with the clash against Andorra before a more high-profile friendly against Spain national football team on 4 June.
As they step up preparations for their return to the global stage, Iraq have been drawn into a challenging World Cup group alongside France national football team, Senegal national football team and Norway national football team.
Officials believe the training camp and friendly fixtures will play a crucial role in improving cohesion, match sharpness and tactical discipline ahead of the tournament.
