Antoine Griezmann is set to hold discussions with Major League Soccer side Orlando City SC after receiving permission from Atlético Madrid to travel during the international break.

A source close to the player confirmed that the 35-year-old has been authorised to visit Orlando in order to advance talks regarding a potential summer move. Should negotiations prove successful, Griezmann is expected to complete the current campaign in Spain before making the switch to the United States.

The France international, a key figure in his country’s 2018 FIFA World Cup triumph, has long been linked with a move to Major League Soccer. He is known to have a strong interest in American sports, particularly the NBA and NFL.

Atlético Madrid had previously resisted the idea of parting ways with their all-time leading goalscorer, who has netted 211 goals across two spells at the club. However, with the MLS transfer window set to open on 26 March, discussions have now been allowed to progress.

Griezmann, who also featured in the 2022 World Cup final defeat to Argentina, retired from international football in 2024 after earning 137 caps and scoring 44 goals for France. Despite signing a contract extension last year that runs until June 2027, he is no longer guaranteed a regular starting place under manager Diego Simeone.

Nevertheless, the forward has still contributed 13 goals this season and will be hoping to end his Atlético career on a high. The club are set to face Real Sociedad — where Griezmann began his professional career — in the Copa del Rey final on 18 April, shortly after their two-legged UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against FC Barcelona.

Vinícius Stars in Madrid Derby Thriller

Meanwhile, Vinícius Júnior produced a match-winning display as Real Madrid secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Atlético Madrid to maintain pressure on league leaders Barcelona.

Following Barcelona’s narrow 1-0 win against Rayo Vallecano earlier in the day, Real Madrid ensured the gap at the top remained at four points with victory at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Atlético took the lead in the first half through Ademola Lookman, but Real Madrid responded strongly after the break. Goals from Vinícius Júnior and Federico Valverde turned the match in favour of the hosts.

Nahuel Molina brought Atlético level with a stunning long-range effort, setting up a tense finale. However, Vinícius struck again to seal all three points for Los Blancos.

Valverde was later sent off for a late challenge on Álex Baena in the closing stages, but Real Madrid held on to secure victory.

The match marked Álvaro Arbeloa’s first Madrid derby in charge since taking over in January, as his side delivered a crucial win in the La Liga title race.
