Inter Milan’s medical staff have been placed on alert after Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that Denzel Dumfries has sustained an injury while on international duty.
Dumfries Doubt for Netherlands After Inter Star Suffers Injury on International Duty
The Dutch national team are preparing to face Poland in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday evening, but Dumfries’ participation is now in serious doubt.
The Inter defender had been widely expected to start, yet reports suggest he may not even make the bench after picking up an issue during training earlier this week.
Dutch and Inter Concerns Grow
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Koeman admitted that Dumfries’ fitness remains uncertain.
“He’s still a doubt for tomorrow,” Koeman said. “I have an appointment with the doctor later to discuss his condition.”
Should Dumfries be ruled out, Lutsharel Geertruida is expected to step in as his replacement on the right flank.
The match is a crucial Group G clash, with the Netherlands currently sitting top on 16 points, while Poland trail closely behind on 13, both having played six matches.
Key Player for Club and Country
Dumfries, aged 29, has been a mainstay in the national team since making his debut in October 2018. He has since earned 69 senior caps, scoring 11 goals and providing 21 assists for the Oranje.
His potential absence would be a major blow for both Koeman’s side and Inter Milan, with the Italian champions also monitoring the defender’s condition closely ahead of their upcoming Serie A fixtures.
