Axel Tuanzebe has launched legal action against his former club Manchester United, alleging negligent medical advice during his time at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old defender, who recently signed for Burnley, filed a claim at the High Court last week. The case centres on an unspecified injury dating back to July 2022 and is reportedly valued at over £1 million.

Tuanzebe was sidelined for 195 days during his final season at United before being loaned to Stoke City in January 2023, where he made just five appearances.

Having joined United’s academy at the age of eight, Tuanzebe rose through the ranks and made his senior debut in 2017. He went on to feature 37 times for the first team before departing the club in the summer of 2023. He subsequently joined Ipswich Town as a free agent and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League, before sealing a move to Burnley earlier this month.

Tuanzebe also captained United at every youth level and featured in the 2021 UEFA Europa League final against Villarreal, scoring in the penalty shootout, which United lost 11–10.

The former England Under-21 international – who now represents DR Congo – also had three loan spells at Aston Villa and a brief stint at Napoli in 2022.

When approached by BBC Sport, both Manchester United and Tuanzebe’s legal representatives, Simons Muirhead Burton, declined to comment on the case.
