Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has found himself embroiled in further controversy after appearing in court, compounding the difficulties he already faces amid an ongoing doping suspension that has sidelined him since November last year.

Mudryk was charged with the alleged use of a banned substance and remains suspended from football while the investigation continues. The Ukrainian maintains his innocence. Recent reports suggested that he could return to action in January pending the outcome of his appeal, with Sevilla understood to be exploring the possibility of a loan deal.

However, the 23-year-old’s situation has worsened following a separate legal matter off the pitch. According to the Daily Mail, Mudryk has been handed another driving ban after he was caught behind the wheel while already disqualified, and in a vehicle deemed unsafe due to “excessive” and “dangerous” tinted windows.

Pulled Over in £140,000 BMW

Mudryk was stopped by police in Chiswick on 2 October while driving his BMW M8, valued at around £140,000. The incident occurred just weeks after he had been banned from driving for six months for excessive speeding.

The court heard that Mudryk drove to Chelsea’s training ground only because his chauffeur was unavailable. Officers discovered that the BMW was registered with Ukrainian plates and that Mudryk had neither valid insurance nor a UK driving licence at the time. Tests also confirmed that the window tints were beyond the legal limit.

Court Appearance and Guilty Pleas

Appearing at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, Mudryk admitted to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and operating a vehicle “in such a condition that it was likely to cause danger”.

His legal representatives highlighted his ongoing doping case as a mitigating factor, stating:

“The past year has had a significant psychological impact on him. Perhaps because of those difficulties, it has affected his judgement.”

Magistrate Sonia O’Connor delivered the verdict, saying:

“We have heard what has been said. The sentence would have been higher, but we have taken into account your guilty plea. You must pay your fine today. You cannot drive.”

Sentencing

Mudryk received:

• A 12-month community order, including 60 hours of unpaid work

• A year-long extension to his driving ban

• A £199 financial penalty, comprising a £114 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs

Doping Investigation Continues

Mudryk’s future in football remains uncertain as he continues to fight his doping charge. Should the FA determine that he knowingly used a performance-enhancing substance, he could face a ban of up to four years. The player insists he has no knowledge of how the substance entered his system.
