Bayern Munich edge seven-goal thriller against Real Madrid to reach Champions League semi-finals

Bayern Munich produced a dramatic late surge to defeat Real Madrid 4–3 on the night and 6–4 on aggregate, booking their place in the semi-finals of the 2025–2026 UEFA Champions League.

Late strikes from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise proved decisive in a pulsating encounter, as the German champions advanced to face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the last four.

The tie delivered a breathless first half, with momentum swinging repeatedly as Real Madrid took the lead on three separate occasions.

Arda Güler capitalised on an early error from Manuel Neuer to open the scoring inside the first minute, before adding a second from a free-kick after Aleksandar Pavlović had equalised for Bayern.

Harry Kane then edged Bayern ahead in the tie, only for Kylian Mbappé to restore parity before the interval, leaving the contest finely balanced at 4–4 on aggregate at half-time.

The turning point arrived late in the match when Eduardo Camavinga was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card, reducing Real Madrid to ten men.

Bayern capitalised swiftly on their numerical advantage, as Díaz fired home from distance with a deflected strike that beat Lunin and swung the tie in the hosts’ favour.

With Real pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Bayern struck again on the counter-attack deep into stoppage time, Olise curling in a superb effort to seal victory and confirm progression.
