Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has criticised Paris Saint-Germain’s celebrations during their dramatic UEFA Champions League semi-final clash, suggesting the French side celebrated prematurely after taking a commanding lead.

Bayern trail 5–4 heading into the second leg after a pulsating encounter at the Parc des Princes, leaving the German side with a narrow deficit to overturn on home soil.

Bayern Face Uphill Task After First-Leg Defeat

The Bavarian club face a significant challenge in the return fixture, having been exposed at times by PSG’s attacking quality. Despite the defeat, Bayern’s response — particularly their fightback from 5–2 down — has drawn praise.

Eberl acknowledged the high quality of the contest, describing it as one of the most remarkable matches he has witnessed.

“That was a magnificent match. I have rarely experienced a game at this level. Compliments to our team,” he said, in comments reported by Sky Germany.

Eberl Questions PSG’s Reaction

However, the Bayern director took issue with PSG’s celebrations after Ousmane Dembélé’s goal made it 5–2, suggesting the reaction was excessive given the stage of the tie.

“After the 5–2, the PSG players celebrated as if they had already reached the final in Budapest,” Eberl remarked.

“We came back into the match, and now everything remains open for the second leg. The Allianz Arena is a fortress.”

All to Play for in Second Leg

Bayern’s late resurgence has kept the tie finely balanced, with the German side needing only a single-goal swing to level the aggregate score.

The return leg in Munich now takes on added significance, with both teams aware that defensive discipline could prove decisive after the first leg’s high-scoring nature.

Confidence Remains in Bayern Camp

Despite the setback, there is belief within the Bayern camp that a comeback is achievable. The Allianz Arena has long been regarded as a formidable venue, and Bayern will be counting on home support to inspire a turnaround.

With the tie still in the balance, Eberl’s comments underline both the confidence within Bayern and the sense that PSG may have celebrated too soon.
