Barcelona’s aggressive activity in the summer transfer market appears set to continue, with the Catalan giants reportedly reaching an agreement in principle with experienced Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva.
Barcelona Reach Agreement with Bernardo Silva as Transfer Plans Intensify
The Blaugrana have already made significant progress in strengthening their squad, having reportedly finalised a deal for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon while simultaneously pushing to secure the signing of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
Now, attention has shifted towards Silva, who is expected to leave Manchester City upon the expiration of his contract after an extraordinary nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
The 31-year-old midfielder has attracted strong interest from several top European clubs in recent weeks. Atletico Madrid are understood to be admirers of the Portugal international and have reportedly held positive discussions regarding a potential move.
Juventus have also entered the race after making an approach for the veteran playmaker, who will become available on a free transfer this summer.
Despite the growing competition, Barcelona appear to have moved into pole position for his signature.
Barcelona Agree Personal Terms with Bernardo Silva
According to reports from SportItalia, relayed by Sport, Barcelona have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Silva ahead of a proposed move to Camp Nou.
The report claims the deal would run for two years, although Barcelona are expected to delay formally completing the agreement until they are certain the transfer can be accommodated within the club’s salary structure and financial regulations.
Silva is said to be fully committed to joining Barcelona despite interest from Atletico Madrid. Reports suggest the midfielder has informed interested parties that the Catalan club remains his priority destination.
The presence of family members already living in Barcelona is also believed to have influenced his decision.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes, who maintains a close relationship with Barcelona’s hierarchy, has reportedly been granted full authority to help finalise the agreement.
Hansi Flick Yet to Fully Approve Deal
Despite progress being made behind the scenes, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has reportedly not yet given the final approval for the transfer.
Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo claims Silva is actively pushing to complete the move, but Flick remains uncertain over whether strengthening the midfield should be a priority this summer.
ESPN has also described Silva as a “real option” for Barcelona, citing sources close to the club.
However, earlier reports suggested Flick believes Barcelona already possess sufficient depth in midfield and may prefer reinforcements in other areas of the squad instead.
The German coach’s cautious approach has reportedly already influenced Barcelona’s transfer strategy this summer, with his reluctance said to have played a role in the club stepping back from a potential move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
Nevertheless, with Silva keen on the transfer and negotiations progressing positively, Barcelona could soon be preparing yet another major signing as they continue reshaping the squad ahead of the new campaign.
