A Ugandan supporter of Arsenal F.C. has threatened legal action over a poor match performance, accusing the club of negligence, bad tactics, and emotional distress to fans. He also criticised manager Mikel Arteta and demanded an explanation or risk a lawsuit.

A Ugandan supporter of Arsenal F.C. has formally notified the club of his intention to take legal action, accusing it of professional negligence, poor tactical execution, and causing emotional distress to its global fanbase following a recent match performance.
In a “Notice of Intent to Sue” dated April 11 and addressed to Arsenal’s headquarters at Highbury House in London, the supporter, identified as Eric Kyama, stated that the club’s performance in its Saturday match against AFC Bournemouth constituted what he described as a “fundamental breach of the implied contract between the club and its global fanbase.” He shared the letter publicly on the social media platform X and also copied it to several international media outlets, drawing widespread attention and debate online.
In the letter, Kyama made a series of allegations directed at the club, its players, and manager Mikel Arteta. He accused the players of professional negligence, claiming they showed “a complete lack of industry” during the match and failed to demonstrate urgency, discipline, or commitment on the pitch. According to him, the team’s performance fell below the standards expected of a professional football club with Arsenal’s reputation and global following.
He also criticised the manager, Mikel Arteta, arguing that his tactical approach was ineffective and lacked the strategic depth required at the highest level of competition. He described the team’s overall display as “disjointed” and “directionless,” suggesting that there was a breakdown in coordination and game management throughout the match.
Beyond the technical and sporting criticisms, the supporter further claimed that the club’s performance had caused him and other fans significant emotional and psychological distress. He argued that supporters invest substantial time, money, and emotional energy into following the club, attending matches, purchasing merchandise, and engaging with its global brand, and therefore expect a level of professionalism and competitiveness in return.
Kyama also raised concerns about what he described as a mismatch between the club’s publicly promoted values and its on-field performance. He referenced Arsenal’s branding themes such as excellence and “Victory Through Harmony,” arguing that these ideals were contradicted by what he perceived as a lack of fighting spirit and cohesion during the match.
He warned that unless the club provides a formal response explaining its performance and outlines clear steps to restore competitive standards, he may proceed with legal action seeking damages. He stated that the basis of his potential claim would include psychological impact, emotional distress, and what he described as a loss of confidence in the club’s direction and management.
The notice has sparked discussion among football fans and observers, many of whom view it as an unusual attempt to apply legal reasoning to sporting disappointment, while others see it as a symbolic expression of frustration from a deeply invested supporter.
