Paris Saint-Germain have received a significant boost ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal after both Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi returned to first-team training.

The French champions will face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the final at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on May 30, with Luis Enrique now increasingly hopeful that two of his most influential players could still feature.

Both Dembélé and Hakimi have been recovering from muscular injuries suffered towards the end of the domestic season, raising serious concerns over their availability for the biggest match of PSG’s campaign.

Dembélé and Hakimi Return to Training

According to reports from French outlet L’Équipe, the pair resumed training with the squad after PSG’s players returned from a short two-day break.

Hakimi has been unavailable since the Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich and was initially considered doubtful for the final due to concerns surrounding his recovery.

Meanwhile, Dembélé was forced off early during PSG’s recent Ligue 1 defeat against Paris FC, immediately triggering fears that the forward could miss the final against Arsenal.

Their return to training has therefore provided major encouragement for PSG only days before the showpiece event in Budapest.

Doubts Remain Over Starting Roles

Despite the positive development, uncertainty still surrounds whether either player will be fit enough to start such a high-intensity fixture.

With only a handful of days remaining before the final, Luis Enrique may decide against taking unnecessary risks with two players considered vital both for PSG and their respective national teams ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

There is growing belief that the safest approach may involve gradually introducing the duo from the bench if required during the match.

The Spanish coach will also be aware that losing either player during the final itself could severely damage PSG’s chances against a physically intense Arsenal side.

Facing a team of Arsenal’s quality without being fully prepared physically could prove costly in a match of such enormous importance, especially with PSG pursuing consecutive Champions League titles.

Possible Alternatives for Luis Enrique

Should Luis Enrique opt not to start Dembélé and Hakimi, several tactical alternatives are already being considered.

Warren Zaïre-Emery could potentially replace Hakimi on the right side, allowing Fabian Ruiz to move deeper into midfield alongside Vitinha and João Neves.

In attack, Bradley Barcola appears the leading candidate to replace Dembélé, forming a front three alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué.

Both solutions would allow PSG to maintain balance and attacking quality while avoiding unnecessary risks with two players still recovering from injury.

PSG Aim for European Glory

The Champions League final represents another huge opportunity for PSG to cement their place among Europe’s elite under Luis Enrique.

After years of disappointment in the competition, the Parisian club now stand on the verge of potentially securing back-to-back European titles.

However, much may depend on the fitness of key players such as Dembélé and Hakimi, whose pace, creativity and experience have been central to PSG’s run to the final this season.

With Arsenal also entering the match in strong form, Luis Enrique now faces several major selection decisions ahead of one of the biggest nights in the club’s history.
