Michael Olise Leads Bayern Munich To 5–0 Win Over Bodø/Glimt, Voted Man Of The Match

Michael Olise produced a sensational second-half performance as Bayern Munich began their Champions League campaign with a 5–0 victory over Bodø/Glimt. The France international scored twice and provided an assist for Harry Kane before being recognised as the Man of the Match after a performance that helped Bayern turn a frustrating first half into a dominant European statement.

Michael Olise was the standout performer as Bayern Munich opened their 2026/27 Champions League campaign with a commanding 5–0 victory over Norwegian champions Bodø/Glimt at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern were frustrated for much of the first half as Bodø/Glimt defended stubbornly and goalkeeper Nikita Haikin made several important saves. However, Jamal Musiala broke the deadlock shortly after half-time, triggering an attacking surge that eventually produced five goals. Olise then took centre stage with two goals of his own and an assist for Harry Kane, earning the Man of the Match award.

Olise Takes Control After The Break

Olise's influence grew as the match opened up.

The French winger delivered the set-piece from which Kane headed Bayern's second goal before producing a superb curling finish in the 83rd minute. He was not finished there, either, as he completed his brace in stoppage time after capitalising on a loose pass from the visitors.

His two goals and assist made him directly responsible for three of Bayern's five goals and underlined his growing importance to Vincent Kompany's side.

Bayern Finally Break Bodø's Resistance

The first half had been far more difficult than the final score suggested.

Bayern dominated possession and created opportunities, but Bodø/Glimt's compact defensive shape made it difficult for the hosts to find a way through. Haikin was particularly impressive, denying Bayern on several occasions before being forced off at half-time because of injury.

Once Musiala opened the scoring in the 47th minute, however, the match changed completely. Bayern found greater space and began attacking with far more freedom.

Kane And Davies Add To The Rout

Harry Kane doubled Bayern's advantage in the 61st minute, heading home from Olise's delivery.

Alphonso Davies then produced a powerful finish from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3–0, before Olise added the fourth and fifth goals.

The result gave Bayern a perfect start to their European campaign and extended their remarkable record of winning their opening Champions League match for the 23rd consecutive season.

Musiala's Return Adds Another Positive

There was also a major personal milestone for Jamal Musiala.

The Germany international returned to the starting line-up and immediately made an impact, breaking the deadlock with the goal that finally opened up the contest.

Musiala later said he was happy to be back in the rhythm of playing and wants to gradually rediscover his best level. Kompany was equally delighted to see the midfielder back on the pitch and contributing.

Olise's Influence Continues To Grow

The performance adds further weight to the argument that Olise is becoming one of Bayern's most important attacking players.

His combination of creativity, technical quality and finishing ability gives Bayern another major threat in the final third. Against Bodø/Glimt, those qualities were particularly evident once the visitors could no longer maintain the defensive resistance they showed before half-time.

For Olise, being named Man of the Match capped a night in which he played a central role in almost everything Bayern did in attack.

Bayern Send A Warning To Europe

Bayern's victory was ultimately much more than a comfortable opening-day result.

The German champions showed patience when Bodø/Glimt made life difficult and then punished the Norwegian side once the game began to open up. With Musiala returning, Kane continuing to score and Olise producing decisive moments, Kompany has plenty of reasons to be encouraged.

Bayern's Champions League journey has started with five goals, a clean sheet and a standout performance from Olise.

If this is the level they can reach when the pressure increases, Europe's leading clubs will have plenty to worry about.
