Barcelona manager Hansi Flick admitted fatigue played a major role in his side’s first defeat of the season, as Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Catalan side took the lead in the first half through Ferran Torres, but PSG struck back before half-time and went on to snatch a late winner, condemning Barcelona to a disappointing loss.

Speaking after the final whistle, Flick reflected on his team’s performance.

“We played much better in the first half than in the second. We conceded too much because we were tired. The truth is that PSG are a great team; they have very young and fast players, and they played a fantastic game,” he told reporters.

“We didn’t play at our best, and against an opponent like that, it’s necessary. They deserved to win.

“I think Pedri and Frenkie have played a lot of minutes. It’s important that they’re fresh, but the important thing is the team.”

Barcelona will look to bounce back quickly when they face Sevilla in La Liga at the weekend, before domestic action pauses again for the upcoming international break.
