Achraf Hakimi has etched his name into the UEFA Champions League record books following Paris Saint-Germain’s emphatic 8–2 aggregate victory over Chelsea in the round of 16 this week.
Hakimi Makes Champions League History with Record-Breaking Feat
PSG entered the second leg at Stamford Bridge with a commanding 5–2 advantage and completed the job in style on Tuesday night, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu all finding the net in London.
Hakimi played a key role in the victory, providing the assist for Barcola’s opening goal in the 14th minute. In doing so, he became the first defender in Champions League history to register at least five assists in two separate campaigns—achieving the milestone in consecutive seasons.
The 27-year-old has now recorded 17 assists in the competition, placing him third among African players in Champions League history. He trails Samuel Eto’o, who leads with 20 assists, and Mohamed Salah, who has provided 18.
Hakimi’s creative contributions this season have also seen him emerge as the joint-leading assist provider in the Champions League, level with Michael Olise of Bayern Munich.
Widely regarded as one of the finest right-backs in world football, Hakimi continues to underline his quality through consistent performances for PSG in both Ligue 1 and Europe’s premier club competition.
