Bayern Munich secured a narrow 3–2 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final, while Barcelona produced a dominant display to overwhelm Real Madrid.

Manchester United showed resilience by twice coming from behind, but a late Bayern winner leaves the German side with a slender advantage ahead of the return leg at the Allianz Arena on 1 April.

The visitors made a dream start, with Pernille Harder opening the scoring in just the second minute. United responded well and drew level through Maya Le Tissier, who converted from the penalty spot following a handball in the area.

Harder restored Bayern’s lead with her second goal of the match, but United once again fought back, with Hanna Lundkvist heading home to make it 2–2. However, Bayern had the final say as Momoko Tanikawa struck the decisive goal from the edge of the box to seal the win.

Elsewhere, Barcelona delivered a commanding performance against Real Madrid, racing into a two-goal lead within 13 minutes courtesy of Ewa Pajor and a header from Esmee Brugts, assisted by Vicky López.

Linda Caicedo pulled a goal back for Real Madrid, but Barcelona quickly reasserted control as Irene Paredes headed home from a corner delivered by Clàudia Pina.

The Catalan side continued their dominance in the second half, with Pajor netting her second of the match before López added another to make it 5–1. Caicedo responded with a well-taken effort from outside the area to complete her brace for Madrid.

Barcelona rounded off the scoring when Alexia Putellas converted a late penalty after Caroline Graham Hansen was fouled in the box, sealing an emphatic 6–2 victory.

The results leave Bayern Munich and Barcelona in strong positions ahead of their respective second-leg encounters, with both sides aiming to secure places in the semi-finals of the competition.
