Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Argentina after President Javier Milei made insulting remarks aimed at Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes at a rally supporting Flávio Bolsonaro. MILEI ATTACKS LULA AT BRAZILIAN RALLY

Milei was speaking at a rally in São Paulo on Saturday to launch the campaign of Flávio Bolsonaro, who is preparing to challenge Lula in Brazil's October presidential election.
Although Milei did not mention Lula by name, he referred to "the thief" and "the convict", apparently targeting the Brazilian president's past legal troubles and imprisonment before his corruption convictions were later annulled.
Milei also described Flávio Bolsonaro as the only candidate capable of stopping Lula from winning another term.

MILEI'S ALLIANCE WITH THE BOLSONARO FAMILY

The Argentine president is a political ally of Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for plotting a coup aimed at remaining in power after losing the 2022 presidential election to Lula.
He is currently under house arrest and is barred from running for office. He has therefore endorsed his son Flávio as the presidential candidate of Brazil's right-wing Liberal Party.
Lula, a veteran left-wing politician, is currently ahead in opinion polls, although more than 10% of voters remain undecided.

BRAZILIAN DIPLOMATS CONDEMN REMARKS

Milei's comments triggered an angry reaction from Brazilian diplomats.
One source told AFP that the Argentine president had insulted two branches of the Brazilian government, as well as the Brazilian people and the country's democracy.
Milei also criticised Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, using an offensive description without directly naming him.
Moraes presided over the trial involving Jair Bolsonaro and recently rejected a request from Milei to visit the former president while he remains under house arrest in Brasília.

LULA RESPONDS

Lula did not directly mention Milei's speech during a public event on Sunday.
However, he appeared to respond to the criticism by saying that Brazil would not accept outsiders interfering in the country's affairs.
The remarks came as tensions between the two governments continue to grow over their political differences.
