US sailor from Oklahoma dies aboard California-docked aircraft carrier
The U.S. Navy on Monday identified a sailor who died onboard an aircraft carrier in Southern California.
Information Systems Technician 2nd Class 22 year old Darren Collins died on Sunday morning as the USS Carl Vinson was docked at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, the Navy said
The cause of his death is under investigation but there weren't any indications of suicide or foul play, a Navy statement said.
Collins was a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma who joined the Navy in 2019. He attended Information Warfare Training in Pensacola, Florida before reporting aboard for the Carl Vinson in October 2020, the Navy said.
My deepest condolences go out to the Collins family in this time of tragic loss," the carrier's commanding officer, Capt. P. Scott Miller, said in the statement. "As shipmates we grieve the untimely passing of a talented young man."
The Carl Vinson's psychologist, chaplains and a counselor are offering support services to the crew, the Navy said.
