Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson from French Ligue 1 side Lille for an undisclosed fee, subject to the granting of a work permit and international clearance.

The 26-year-old left-back becomes the Whites’ fourth acquisition of the summer, signing a four-year deal that will keep him at Elland Road until 2029.

Gudmundsson arrives in West Yorkshire following a standout season at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, where he made 45 appearances across all competitions for Les Dogues. His contributions included nine outings in the UEFA Champions League, as Lille progressed to the round of 16 and secured a seventh-place finish in the league phase.

Impressive European Pedigree
During his time in France, Gudmundsson demonstrated his versatility and defensive acumen, particularly in high-profile European fixtures. He completed the full 90 minutes in Lille’s 1-0 victory over Real Madrid, and further impressed in clashes against Atlético Madrid, Juventus, and Liverpool.

Capable of operating across the left flank — both defensively and offensively — the Swede brings depth, experience, and tactical flexibility to Leeds’ defensive options.

Career Background and International Experience
Gudmundsson began his professional career at Halmstads BK in his native Sweden, scoring 16 goals in 88 appearances. He later moved to the Dutch Eredivisie with FC Groningen, where he spent two seasons before securing a switch to Lille in 2021.

Over the course of four years in France, he amassed nearly 150 appearances in all competitions, becoming a key figure in Lille’s domestic and European campaigns.

On the international stage, Gudmundsson has earned 15 caps for Sweden, most recently playing a starring role in their 2-0 win over Hungary in June 2025.

Leeds Continue Summer Business
Gudmundsson’s arrival marks Leeds United’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the upcoming campaign.

A statement from the club added:

“Everyone at Leeds United would like to welcome Gabriel to Elland Road.”
